Create some of your own music on this fun website. Go to “musical sketchpad”, and have mom, dad, or someone help you read the directions if you’re in kindergarten or first grade. Click here.

Mrs. Vrotny hopes everyone is having a great summer! She has just gotten back from Cleveland, Ohio. Cleveland Ohio was the first place to have a rock band concert. She went to visit the “Rock Hall of Fame “one afternoon. While there she got to hear some very interesting facts about the musicians in the Hall of Fame. One of the facts was that one of the Beatle’s had to soak his guitar strings in oil to protect them, because he couldn’t afford to buy new strings when they were first starting out as a band.

Here is a fun video to see of the song “Hey Jude”, by the Beatles. Mrs. Vrotny was in the square where the video was made. She was there several years ago when London was granted their bid for the 2012 Olympics. There were a lot of people there then, just like in the video.

Have you ever seen so many people singing at once? You don’t need to have a great voice to enjoy singing. These people in the video are just people who gathered on their lunch hour for the video. You can tell that they won’t be auditioning for”Britain’s Got Talent”, but they’re having a good time anyway.

Some people said they felt stressed from work that day, but singing a song with all of them together made them happy, and it uplifted their day. Isn’t it great how music can uplift your day and make you feel better? What songs do you listen to that make you feel better when you’re having a bad day?

This is just a fun video to watch; a large group of people just start dancing in a train station. Everyone likes to move or dance to music. If you like this video there is another one similar to this one, but with the song “Do Re Mi” from the musical “The Sound of Music.” You can look it up under “Life is For Sharing” on Youtube. Remember to do this with your parents.
Remember when we learned about what a musical is in music class this year? Maybe your family will want to watch the musical “The Sound of Music” this summer on family movie night, or when you’re on a road trip.

Remember when we played the music “Style Dials” game? One of the musical styles on the game board was the “blues.” Chicago, which is close to where Mrs. Vrotny lives, is famous for the blues music style.
Here is an eight year old prodigy playing the blues. You might want to look up the song “Sweet Home Chicago”, and listen to it. It’s a very famous blues song.

Boys and girls have you ever heard a six year old play the piano like this?! In this video it says that Emily played for the president at age six. Mozart played for the king and queen at age six; the same age as this little girl. Mozart wrote music just like Emily does, and is recognized as one of the most famous composers who ever lived . Mozart was known as a child prodigy in music. People say Emily is a prodigy like Mozart was. A prodigy is someone who is a highly talented child.

You might want to look up Mozart on Google to find out more about him, when he lived, and what he looked like. If you have comments you’d like to share about the video, I will post them for others to read.
